Can I go ahead and just say this:  I hate plays.  They exist in a little bubble of smarty-pants that thrive on begged money and I just hate them.  Most plays suck, most actors are terrible and most directors are clueless.  This is because writing, acting and directing are so fucking hard.   But when they are good, they are good.

Which is strange why I should have liked the production of John Harvey’s “Things Being At The Worst.”   It is a nearly incomprehensible tornado of la-di-da jibber-jabber. Not only was it a play about making plays, it was an avante-garde play about making avant-garde plays.

Talk about giving someone enough rope to hang themselves.

So on paper, I should just hate this thing.  But it just tore me up.   It reached.  Wow.  My wife was in it so I saw the damn thing (including rehearsals)  I don’t know how many times and I was whomper-jawed every time.   The production was years ago and, man, I still think about it.

I took pictures of the cast and here are three of them.  These photos have been shared before but the people in the photos performed so well, they deserve the extra exposure.  And if you think I liked the play because my wife and friends were in it, hoo boy, it ain’t so.
